Key Takeaways
Buffalo Bore Ammunition is now offering 500 Jeffrey cartridges
Transcript
This is a Joe Smithson 500 Jeffrey with a 24-inch barrel, which I recently acquired to replace my other 500 Jeffrey that I’m importing to Africa full-time. I needed a solid 500 Jeffrey at the factory for testing each batch of ammo we make. This particular rifle used to belong to Mark Buchanan, who hunted and made films in Africa but has since stopped, so I bought it from him. Joe Smithson builds incredible rifles, and this one is no exception.
I’m making sure the iron sights are dialed in at 50 yards because, if I hunt with this rifle, I’ll use iron sights—I won’t put a scope on it. After firing a three-shot group, I noticed it was shooting slightly to the right and a bit high. There’s nothing I can do about the height with these sights, but I can drift it left by about two inches. Once adjusted, I’ll have a sighted 500 Jeffrey that I can use for just about anything. Before winter ends here in Idaho, I’ll likely take down a coyote with it.
The ammo I’m using consists of 570-grain CEB solid brass bullets. All my rifles shoot these to the same point of impact as the soft points I use, but I just want to make sure this rifle is sighted in properly before taking it out for anything serious.
